From the COMMENT inside New Life Sport Special Issue
Throughout this special issue of New Life we see numerous athletes thanking God for their gifts and talents.
Faith itself is a gift. Ephesians 2:8 says: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
The Apostle Paul, who wrote the book of Ephesians also penned the following words in Philippians 2:12. “Work out your salvation with fear and trembling.”
Key are the words, ‘Work out.’
Imagine faith as a muscle.
Faith is a free gift, but it’s time to take it to the gym.
Those familiar with the gym setting will know about the theory of progressive overload. It is defined as: “The gradual increase in volume, frequency or intensity to achieve a targeted goal.”
Put simply, you must step out of your comfort zone, push yourself beyond your limits and you will eventually do things you would never have imagined were possible.
Also, if you’re building muscle, protein is an essential part of your diet. For the faith muscle, consider the Bible your source of protein.
The other basic in building muscle is simple, exercise.
There are two exercises you can use to flex your faith muscle; believing for and trusting in.
Faith is believing for. Faith is believing for salvation, believing for healing, believing for miracles.
But faith is also trusting in. Faith is trusting in God’s heart of love for you when you can’t see his hand at work in your life. Faith is a muscle. Are you ready to flex?
