After experiencing an amazing vision of Christ as a teenager, Jonathan Conrathe has spent three decades preaching the gospel across the globe. But now, he says, it is time for Britain, and he is working to bring the gospel to every major community in the land
When Jonathan Conrathe was 17, he spent one remarkable night encountering Jesus on the cross. Having been pushed to pick a career at school that day, he came home and prayed that God would speak to him – unmistakably. “I fell asleep into a vision,” he recalls. “It was as real as if I was chatting to you face to face. I wasn’t expecting this, but for about what seemed like half the night, I was standing at the foot of the cross. “Jesus was looking down at me and he was saying these words: ‘healing and salvation must be preached from my cross’. What seemed like halfway through the night, the vision changed and I was face to face with the Lord and the cross was to our side.
“The Lord said to me, ‘Now look and see who’s on the cross.’ I looked and I saw myself. I suddenly woke up, and I could feel imprints on my hands. I couldn’t talk for 40 minutes and I had this deep inner knowing of two things. “One was that Jesus had called me to preach the full gospel of salvation and healing. The other was that there was a price to pay and I had to be willing to
pay it.” And Jonathan has never turned back: our ‘30 minute’ interview ran to an hour and a quarter as his effervescent enthusiasm for the work of evangelism bubbled over. Over three decades after his call – with 27 of those years spent introducing an estimated 240,000 people to Christ – Jonathan’s passion for the gospel burns as brightly as ever.
