EVERTON stopper Tim Howard has revealed his grandma was the major influence in him turning to Christ.
The popular goalkeeper, who recently signed a new deal at Goodison Park which will take him up to the age of 37, is a committed Christian.
He said: “Even though my life often seemed chaotic, I knew I could count on at least one person to provide calm and stability – my grandmother.
“Nana’s sense of peace was so powerful because it came from her faith in the Lord. Through her, God revealed his love for me as well. It wasn’t long before I was following in her footsteps. I wanted the same kind of faith and peace she had, and that is exactly what God gave me.”
Howard, who has had another impressive season for the Toffees, says he isn’t thinking about retirement – although he doesn’t see himself playing beyond 40.
He added: “Everton is a place that is home for me. When you have a really good relationship in life and both sides are eager to continue and keep that going, it’s a no-brainer.”
