‘I put God before my career’
Faith means everything to BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker – because he believes there are more important things in life than even the best job in the world
Popular television presenter Dan Walker has said he would rather spend his Sunday in church with family than take ‘the best job in the world’. Walker, a regular face on screens across the nation as BBC Breakfast and Football Focus presenter, insists there is no chance he would sacrifice his day of rest for work. Sports Personality of the Year (presented live on a Sunday in mid-December each year) is the flagship event in the BBC sports broadcasting calendar, but when quizzed about the opportunity Walker held to his convictions.
He says: “I do have large and significant carrots in my work. “I’d say, ‘I really appreciate that. It’s a lovely offer and I’m sure it would be a magnificent programme but someone else can do it, because for me as a Christian Sundays are even more important than the best job in the world.’ “For practical and spiritual reasons it’s really important to me. It’s a personal decision I made for the good of my family, and I’ve managed somehow to maintain it for 20 years. I’m in the job because I love doing it, but it’s not the be all and end all.”
