A church pastor is dishing out Caribbean food as well as sermons in a popular new business venture round the corner from his church.

Roger Maynard, pastor of New Testament Church of God in Willenhall, opened his Divine Cuisine takeaway in March after lockdown hit his catering trade.

Now locals are raring to get their hands on his West Indian dishes, with boneless curried mutton and jerk chicken top of their lists.

“We’ve only been open a few weeks but it’s been pretty successful so far,” said Roger, 55. “Lots of people from the area have come in and I’m hoping it will become a community hub where I get to share my faith.”
He admits the new business took him slightly by surprise at first.

“I know God called me to the church where I pastor but I never envisioned having a shop in the community too.”

Now, though, he says he simply sees the takeaway as an extension of his church.

“When people find out I’m a pastor it leads to opportunities to share my faith one way or another and I’ve been able to do that with quite a few people already.”
