Four-time heavyweight world champion boxer Evander Holyfield may be nicknamed The Warrior.
But when it comes to battling obstacles in his life he can’t fight without asking God to take the lead. And he says: “Without Jesus, I wouldn’t be who I am.”
Alabama-born Holyfield is famed for his heavyweight dominance alongside Mike Tyson.
He acknowledges that his success is down to God and credits his mum and grandmother for showing him tough love and encouraging him to call on the name of Jesus. He said: “They kept reminding me, ‘You’ve got to ask Jesus to help you.’”
Holyfield’s faith in God and having a family that relies on Jesus enabled him to stay positive in the face of adversity.
Now, the man who was famed for his physical strength is focused on helping other men find a true inner strength through faith in Jesus.
He added: “I have a purpose to represent God and I’ve got to represent him the best way I know how. Men should come together being able to open up and being able to be truthful because you have to be truthful to overcome things. God wants you to forgive. I wouldn’t be who I am if I hadn’t been through what I’ve been through.”
