Bayern Munich defensive superstar David Alaba has professed “My strength lies in Jesus” as his team has celebrated many on-field accolades.
Alaba, who was named Austrian Sports Personality of the Year back in 2014, is at the heart of a Bayern side who have conquered the German top flight, winning eight consecutive Bundesliga titles as well as picking up the coveted European Champions League title in August 2020. However, while on-field success is important, for Alaba there is a much greater cause to live for, which he revealed when he took off his Bayern shirt at the end of the UEFA Champions League final to reveal the message: “My strength lies in Jesus.”
A Pentecostal believer, Alaba is often found sharing his faith on social media and in the wake of the Champions League success, posted to his followers; “Everything is possible by the power of the Holy Ghost! Champions of Europe!”
Now moving into a second decade with the German heavyweights, Alaba boasts two Champions League winners medals, nine Bundesliga medals and a Club World Cup, but it is not about his personal trophy cabinet as the centre-back shares his favourite Bible verse.
He quotes Philippians 2:4, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
