The Voice winner Jermain Jackman thanked God as he became the first ever male contestant to be victorious on the hit TV talent show.

Church-going Jermain said in front of milllions of viewers during last month’s final: “I want to thank God for providing me with this opportunity and all of the opportunities that I have had.

“And I want to thank Will for everything. He’s the best coach ever.”

His comments came after he praised God in his live interview during the semi-finals show.

After being told he was going through to the finals, he pointed to the air and exclaimed: “Without him I wouldn’t be here.”

The 19-year-old, from Hackney in London, told viewers during earlier rounds that his love of music was rooted in the Church, where he regularly sings.

Jermain was the second contestant to speak about his faith in this year’s competition.

Semi-finalist Bizzi Dixon, who didn’t make it into the final, has become synonymous with the Twitter hashtag #bizzipraise, where he praises God.

Speaking on Christian radio station Premier before the semi-final, Bizzi said: “I have a strong faith and it’s a pleasure to be able to talk openly about God on a radio station.”
